CRYPTIC THURSDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
PROGRAM: [Java]
It’s been a long time coming since the last crpytic puzzles ran on BEQ. The second one is noteworthy because I made a promise to run the third in two months. I was off by only 22.5 months. Yay, math! No promises this time. Only the guarantee that this cryptic is a winner. Tip of the hat to Nancy Schuster and Ross Beresford for their clue editing and assistance. I couldn’t have done this without you guys.

ANNOUNCEMENT The summer BEQ.com drive comes to an end this weekend, so if you haven’t given yet, get on it. Those who were able to donate in the past were given one Sunday-sized themeless puzzle as a thank you. This year, due to the overwhelming response, I have changed the format to now give two Sunday sized puzzles: one themeless, one themed. It’s like having an extra large extra week of BEQ. Just a $10 tip keeps the site chugging along, and you’ll get the bonus puzzles (the themeless puzzle almost immediately, the themed one arriving mid-July). This Independence Day, support an independent puzzler. So hit that tip jar, and thanks for your continued support.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Thank you. I hope we don’t have to wait as long for the next one.
One question. Is 25A {Very positive appetizer} a double definition? If so, then is the length of 4 correct since SO UP is (2, 2)?
It’s a charade SO + UP = SOUP.
I enjoyed the soup. It was one of my favorite clues. But the crossing of Asiago cost me time. It’s the only place where I’d question Brendan’s clueing. The inclusion of big before cheese is unsound in my opinion. Nice for the surface, but unwarranted for the definition element. Overall, an excellent job.
Enjoyed the cryptic and got it all, but perplexed by Sandra Fleck in 8D….Help?
