If a writer writes what they know, what do my puzzles say about me? Wait. Don’t answer that. Some things are better left unanswered. And besides, it reminds me of the one and only time I went to therapy. The shrink, a strict Freudian, said I’d be going for the rest of my life. After One Session! I mean, seriously. Just come out and say you need the clients. Besides, I’m not that fucked up, am I? Wait. Don’t answer that.
But there is something to be said about BEQ-specific entries. Couple two-three entries in the SE will tell you all you need to know about what’s been on my mind lately (much to the horror of Liz). A quick peek at the seed entry in the NE shares the story of my continuing adventures in home ownership. And of course there’s de rigeur music entries strewn about. (You though I would let one puzzle go by without, did you?)
Share the puzzle. New on Wednesday.
This struck me an an example of your new, stricter rating system: might have been hard in the old days, now just medium. Lots of stuff right on the edge of what I know: DR ROMANO, SHEENA, MIA, but I should have gotten ALASTAIR SIM quicker.
Some less than ideal entries: OSIERED and AMERCERS.
Having IANA in place of ANAS at 6D made the NW slow for me, and having UPC for SKU at 63D slowed down the SE. I tend to think that the UPC encodes the SKU, and so you’re really SCANning the UPC, but I guess that you scan the SKU as part of that.
A couple of errors on this one due to lack of knowledge SIM/SALESIAN crossing and then OSIERED with a couple of crossings. Very erratic puzzle with some great fill and some other stuff that I would have rahter seen on another day.
pearl jam? really? but ok, having the ramones in there cancels that out i guess. great ikea clue!
I was in 5-star realm until I hit ONITSEND and OSIERED. Otherwise, tis lots of good stuff in there.
I don’t think, strictly speaking, a catalogue is a periodical…but then, you weren’t speaking strictly, were you?
I’ll take SIM/SALESIAN and raise it with THOME/NOEL. So BEQ’s home now has a stars and bars theme? Or maybe you’ve planted a CATALPA tree. I particularly liked the MAHARANI and the clue for REALTOR. Thanks for the puzzle.
Yes, Kelly! Pearl Jam really! Great fill… nothing needs cancelling out there! Also love Paper Planes…great song!!
Entered MADMAGAZINE for 17 across blindly…really screwed up my NW…but I loved LINEBACKERS over MADDEN CURSE…sweet!!
Killed by “S” in “SIM” / “SALESIAN,” neither of which I’ve heard of, and for which there are no reasonable guesses or inferences. Else, pretty good.

Well, I got Sheena and Linebackers and… actually that was about it.
But I still thought the Ikea Catalog answer and clue were great!
My comment didn’t post. Dang, banned from another board. I wish I remember what I said, it was good.
AAH/OOps – forgot the elastic letters thing, just clicked home to chunkyarses.com and forgot to validate.
I had DJQB and nothing else in the SW down, I threw in the towel assuming it was wrong.
