PRINTOUT PUZZLE: [ THEMELESS MONDAY]
PROGRAM: [Adobe Acrobat]
Thank God for the three day weekend. Needed the time off from work to install the brand new sign in our courtyard we received from Elaine Walizer of Arkansas (see picture). I hope our neighbors in the other condos don’t mind. Maybe now UPS will be able to find our property, instead of leaving the packages in the gutter.
Thanks to all who were able to tip last month. Our randomly selected donor is Janet Pace of St. Louis.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Do you keep the moat stocked with KOI and OPAH?
BARSCENE is a 3-thumbs up answer!!
In other news I found this possible one of the hardest BEQ themelesses I’ve done, but looking back I can’t see too many clues and/or answers and point them out… I do know after 25 minutes all I had at the top was the A of 1A and 8d though! JEWISH penicillin was really weird but I looked it up – amusing.
Things that still need explaining: DHING, makes not one lick of sense… I can’t find any dictionary support for KUE (I had CUE, for which I can find some but not much…) It does have previous crossword support though!
Do you guys not have Gonow cars in the States yet? I’m guessing it would’ve been clued that way if they were. Really naff name for a car company in any case…

DHing means ‘being the DH,’ as in baseball, a role that certain Indians past their best might be shunted into. Can’t say that I’ve ever heard anyone use DH as a verb in this way.
Lots of other tricky stuff. I’d never heard the expression QUICKASAWINK, tho it makes perfect sense. I’m baffled by 1A — don’t see how it fits the clue at all.
And it took me a shamefully long time to recall that there was a recent US prez with last name ending in F (not Mr Fillmore, that is…)
So THAT’S the definition of your catch phrase! Loved DHING…overall a tough, fun puzzle. My trail started in the SE, went west, north, and after a long layover, finished in the NE.
Struggled in the NE, but in a fun way. Immediately typed in MBA for the Bush clue, and then tentatively wrote in ERA for the Triple Crown clue, though I didn’t think that the pitcher’s triple crown was familiar enough to people, so I thought of RBI…which I confirmed by writing in DWI for the Bush clue, which I thought was a great misdirect clue (though in retrospect is Bush the only pres with a dewy? Clinton maybe?). Took me a few minutes of frustration to get that untangled…
Nice puz.
{Code name} is great for DA VINCI.
Struggled everywhere. Had SAW EYE TO EYE right off the bat but nothing else in the northwest wanted to fall so easily.
THe ROLOS/OXHIDE/SLICER/XLI came easily in the southest but, with NOVEL for NANNY and WJC for GRF, yeesh what a workout.
Definately one of the hardest hards yet. Loved it!
Ditto on JEWISH penicillin (I was ready to offended but was amused instead), DHing, and DA VINCI. This was my hardest BEQ ever, not Mard, not Hard, I’ve designated it HHH, along the lines of XXX, as in, this is hardcore stuff…..
Totally cracked up at your use of the photo; thanks for posting it. My friends were very amused.
Loved this puzzle, although I had to finish with DH_NG and a blank (didn’t know the cross.) Don’t feel too badly now.
Have you started on the new rock mailbox yet?
