Yeah, I know I misspelled it in the title. It’s intentional. I got two things on my mind: I go on vacation tomorrow; and I need a haircut. I decided to combine the two themes for an easy puzzle. And yes, stalkers, take note: Liz and I will be carousing around Martha’s Vineyard this year. Alert the media.
For those who were looking for a stiffer challenge, can I direct you to Peter Gordon’s Fireball Crosswords? Yeah, this marks the second post in a row that I talked about these puzzles, but there’s a new reason for bringing it up today. Peter was kind enough to run one of my puzzles (a Sunday-sized one). So if you’re not already a subscriber, get to it. For the uninitiated: $10 gets you 50 puzzles, and I’ve heard Peter will take half the money for half the puzzles. It’s up to you.
Lastly, my band posted a new single here. Enjoy.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Yeah, I’ve been working on the Fireball since breakfast, off and on. Clever, clever theme, but have hit a wall and it’s slooooow going. I’d like to whine to a sympathetic ear, but I’ve lost my confidant.
Always on the cutting edge.
Loved the Fireball puzzle. No surprise, I guess, because I was one of the five or six people who ate up the cross-reference Puzzle 5 at ACPT as well.
I think it’s a pretty clever way of adding a bit of “meta” to a puzzle, but a lot of speedsolvers seem to find them annoying because it breaks their rhythm or something.
48D. Really?
and 12D. You probably say, “Ice tea,” too. For shame.
it’s not just adding a meta. i think those helper entries are necessary for fairness, because a) subtraction themes are hard to see, and b) wordplay themes where every wordplay is different are very, very hard to see.
that said, well executed.
Nitpicking… 39D doesn’t end in the month of 29D any more, at least in North America. It ends during the first weekend of the month that follows 29D.
I await the explanation that you were referring to Europe. 🙂
