Got some interesting email last week …
Most were in the deluge of love/encouragement/congratulations/ etc. on behalf of the arrival of my beautiful daughter Tabitha. Deep, hearty thanks again to all who sent one. I knew that the fans of the BEQ.com were some of the nicest people around, and those emails just about confirm it as fact. I have been moved.
I also got one intriguing email from a company called (I kid you not) Jizzenlarge. They claim my “nightly activities are set to get wilder” if I start taking their pills. My nightly activities now include changing diapers every 90 minutes in between unrestful patches of sleep.
And finally, there was some, um, interesting feedback on my latest Times puzzle [PDF] [Across Lite]. A writer by the very Spam-sounding handle “Instrument Mechanics PC #2” posed this question:
Dollar store = rentacars?!?!? What the fuck is wrong with you?
How much time do you have, Instrument Mechanics PC #2? We could be here for a while answering that one.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Re this H. Irene: I got thru it just fine. Electricity came on after 13 hrs. of darkness. These power workers seem more of a crack team at this than the H. Isabel calamity of 8 years back. Speaking of which, some bar owner put up an interesting sign that said ISABEL BLOWS. But we don’t. We’re open for business…
61A We’re taking put AFGHAN out of the description and making it real harder. 52 FICTIONAL or CINEMATIC was similarly removed.
52A The TECH terms and SPORTS terms are my worst areas. They are my mistletoe when it comes to solving XWPs.
Not knowing how to spell the Ratings company got me derailed in the NE corner–though I had INGOT and AWL. And I could see ?Albert Finney? (whoever!) telling folks to throw open the window and holler the protest in ‘China Syndrome’ but no idea of the character’s name. Had a Natick square at 52 (got the rest on crosses.) For ME, this constitutes a Very Strong Showing on a BEQ puzzle.
Hilarious comment, BTW. The first few weeks of parenthood are pretty rough, but once you can get 5 hours of sleep, life starts to improve. Sounds like things are about normal. (Complete and utter sympathy!)
Our daughter (and firstborn) is now 30, and out earning a good income. I think it’s about time I sued her for grievous bodily harm….
Can we expect to see JIZZENLARGE at 1-A any time soon??
I can only imagine the clue.
(FInch not Finney and Network not TCS. As penance, watch Network again. Great movie- one of my favorites. And, unfortunately, remarkably prescient about TV…)
Oh, DUH on me! Fortunately, it didn’t impact my solve–I didn’t know the character’s name either way. I will try to find ‘Network’ and watch it in order to achieve redemption!
