Stumbled upon one of the 15s in the above stack whilst cluing a different puzzle, and concluded it was too good not to use in a triple stack (I’ll leave figuring out which one it is as an exercise for the reader). I accidentally made the grid so that all the crossings for the stack were at least 4-letters long, and in doing so, backed myself into the nightmare 4×9 corners (Ick). I know “Miracle” Matt Gaffney used to make 4xridiculous corners all the time just for fun. Not me. I’d only do it if I really had to (like today’s). Anyway, favorite clue in the batch: 35-Down. And … scene.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Learned about arena rock today in BEQU. But the answer only made sense when I finally realized that Boston and Chicago are the names of rock groups who presumably were known for their performances in front of large crowds. For some reason wikipedia referenced cock rock in their article on arena rock.
Nice puzzle! Liked FITNESSGURU once I figured it out–had the GURU part first. Did not know MAC as a beauty product. And the clue for 28A should be “WouldN’T it be Loverly.” Thanks BEQ!
Nice to see the Triple Sesquipedalia dead center in the middle. I take it that ANTHONY whathisname was your sine qua non answer, yes BEQ? The answer above it saved me cuz I was having a lot of trouble in the horizontal middle. Then everything fell into place. 59 This is the only outrageously named James Bond femme fatale to have the movie named for her, neighs pa? 54A Like inspired clues like this. RODAN being buried in lava. 20A The “pump” in the clue threw me off considerably. 57A The answer emerged totally and I didn’t get to answer “MARGARITA” until I was almost done. &&&&&&& Inspiration for my commentary on the XWPs. The Mystery Science Theater 3000’s second season episode of THE SIDEHACKERS. The second segment when Joel Hodgson does his newly invented reportage on the sidehacker tournament races. It be good enough for THE OCHO.
What’s a “oner”? Googling it didn’t help.
I searched for “define oner” and got “a remarkable person or thing”. May come from “one of a kind”
Got GERT from crossings, figured it must be a JBond-Frobe clue as it crossed another JBond clue, but no. . .
Had to Amazon book search “Daddy and Me” (I’ll just remember one of these days…) A VERY colorful collection of literature.
I’ll admit I’m way behind on “NCIS”, but I don’t think anyone calls him by his middle name. The team uses his last and Ducky his first, right?
It was a pleasure to solve.
