Now that’s a piece of trivia at 1-Across. It’s one of those gift-wrapped beauties that it seems almost impossible that that wasn’t the seed entry just to showcase that factoid. Alas, it was not. As is the case with grids shaped like these, the seed entries were the long entries at 19-, 31-, 43-, and 55-Across with 20-Down holding them in place. Before I stray too far from the topic of cluing, three cheers for 60-Down, eh? Gotta love thoroughly modern clues for tired answers.
In the odd chance you missed it, I co-wrote Saturday’s New York Times puzzle with Caleb Madison. Do it here: [PDF] [Across Lite]
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Huh? 1-Across isn’t A. HUXLEY?
No SuperBowl theme or comment????
We want an all NY Giants puzzle
No “we” don’t! Um… might want to check the area code under Custom Crosswords up there on the top right!
I am sitting here holding my breath until I see KYRKJEBO in a crossword.

Hardest one in a while for me. Had ONE LOVE and ELITISM in the NW but had to Google the poker guy to finish up. Got EPIGONE from crosses but that was new to me. Thanks, BEQ.
I think maybe BEQ got annoyed with last Monday’s “it wasn’t THAT hard” feedback.
This one was brutal, even with ONELOVE and ALUNSER confidently ensconced…
Yep, top-left was a train wreck here, mostly nasty clues (5-D, I’m talking to you). 1-D was unknown. Rest of it was a hell of a lot of fun to uncover.
Wickedly tough… but I didn’t let it slip through my fingers!! =)
very tough. really.
