Cruised through it pretty well until I had to meditate to get the 43s. Putting that last letter in probably took me two minutes!
Re: Onion Puzzle, 2-Down: 1986, 2001, and…?
Gin Sling, sure. Singapore Sling, of course. Brandy Sling? Never heard of one. Note to costructor: a minority of states in the U.S. require a permit to “own” a gun, most all require a permit to “carry” a gun. Owning and carrying are vastly different animals.
True, but the clue doesn’t assume majority of states or specify which state. Its vagueness saves the trouble, allowing only that the possibility exists for an owner’s permit. If anything, it increases the clue difficulty a bit.
Consider a clue such as “Actor’s honor” for OSCAR. True, only a select few actors actually have one, and many others may get Emmys, Obies, whatever. But it validates the clue enough to work for the puzzle, even if you don’t get it right off the clue.
“Strategery” isn’t a Bushism. It’s a parody of a Bushism uttered by Will Ferrell.
