The Boston Area Puzzle Hunt was this weekend, and the puzzles are posted here. Although I couldn’t make it out, I saw a couple of the puzzles and would like to point a few wordy ones for you. First up: Joon Pahk and Kobe Katherine Bryant’s wonderful Rows Garden. When you’re done with that, try Kevin Wald’s crossword on a honeycomb. Cryptic fans might be interested in Kevin’s work. I don’t always get to his puzzles, or for that matter understand what he’s trying to accomplish (my fault, not his), but when I do I’ve found them quite impressive constructions.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Easiest hard ever.
FYI, there are two versions of every puzzle, a “hard” and a “normal” version. at BAPHL we called it “easy”, but they’re only slightly easier than the “hard” versions–still fundamentally the same puzzle, but perhaps with extra enumerations and slightly more explicit instructions. the easy version of the rows garden puzzle has bloom clues listed in grid order.
THIS WAS WAY TOO MUCH, But AFAIAC, it’s the ONLY WAY. & Lots of great cluing. Par exemple, 51D, 35A, 39A, 23A, 24D, 7D, etc. 29D – I think this would be an alternate spelling. 55A is for the classicist in me.
Loved the grid, and many of the clues: 35A, 41A, 42A, 51A, 19D. But the clue at 22A confused me. Shouldn’t it read something like, “Like the lead for many a save opportunity?”
