THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]

While we were eating breakfast this morning, Tabitha asked me to help her with this gigantic sticker/puzzle book. You can probably guess the puzzle types. Place this sticker of a bone in the appropriate space on page 84 to complete the picture of the dog having dinner. Or figure out the patterns and put the missing fish stickers in the blank spaces (see above picture). Oh, sorry for any of you who were going to do “The Big Book of Animal Stickers.” I should have posted a “spoiler alert” warning there. Anyway. The puzzle nut in me is really happy that Tabby seems to be into solving. Or, I don’t know, maybe it’s just the stickers.
So yeah, she likes the decals and animals, but she also seems to be really into mazes. There’s a couple of them in the book, and we did a few of them. Some of the mazes we solved even more than once. I guess to check our work. Or double check the maze didn’t change in the meantime. Whatever. I love this fact she’s into mazes. For you see, I was really into mazes as a little kid. Like mesmerized by them. In kindergarten, during art class, the assignment was usually just: “draw anything.” And what did I do? I drew mazes. And boom, my career in puzzlemaking began. Now Tabby isn’t drawing mazes at all, she’s still in the primitive abstract expressionistic multi-media stage. But give her time. She seems to be into puzzles, for now at least. And who knows, maybe we’ve got another puzzlemaker in the family. We already have two.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Way to go, Liz!!
So, I was going to hit you up to ask you this anyway, but since we’re talking about puzzle books for children… what sort of well-constructed puzzle/related books are there for a six year old (first grader) who is an avid reader and is a little advanced for his age? A quick, half-assed search on the internet didn’t turn up much for me… any recommendations from the puzzle world?
This puzzle was VERY hard — as in, even after I checked that a word was correct, it still befuddled me.
REBUS puzzles for Tab.
Really solid, most enjoyable solving experience in a while. Gotta love a puzzle with a Woody Guthrie reference.
Only part that gave me tzuris was the Next corner. Otherwise it was awesome.
I meant NW.
12Down: this was one of those cases where I was short one letter and I couldn’t make heads or tales of the answer. Seemed like some exotic Asian city that I never heard of: ORE_UTAH. Then I got the MSN part.
