UPS AND DOWNS: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Winter is icummen in. I guess it’s already here, but all I hear about is how the Northeast will be blanketed with snow. Me? I live in complete denial that there are things called “seasons,” as my entire wardrobe is geared for exactly one of them: Autumn. But still, Tabitha wants to go sledding, so let’s get some snow, hit the slopes, and then be done with it. Do you hear me, Mother Nature? I’m giving you permission for exactly one storm, so you’d better make it count. None of this prolonged storm upon storm upon storm rotgut that we went through last year. One and that’s it. Okay? Okay.
As for todays puzzle? This one’s a weird ‘un. My favorite bit about it is that despite its totally normal appearance, it has only 74 words, four fewer than normally themed puzzles have. So, it’s deceptively wide open. Cool theme, too, in my humble opinionn. Hope you enjoy it.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Bar none, best puzzle I’ve done all week.
Loved this puzzle.
Wow, that is awesome. Didn’t get the theme (which made for a much harder puzzle) until it was entirely done, then my jaw dropped.
Cool puzzle, but there are no noodles in unadon. It’s short for unagi donburi, broiled eel on rice. No relation to udon.
just finished- don’t understand the theme – it’s going to drive me nuts the rest of the day
Brilliant.
@Paul You have to read letters in an up and down (like the title of the puzzle) fashion to make sense of the long across entries. So BNCGBABYBOYS is BOUNCING BABY BOYS when you read BNCG with OUIN (from BEDOUINS) above it in an up and down fashion. DOUBLEDECKEVARS is DOUBLE DECK ELEVATORS when EVARS is read with LETO above it and TWOFORTHESSA is TWO FOR THE SEESAW when SSA is read with EEW above it.
Wicked. Thanks for the tip.
yeah but, ‘twofortheseesaw’ doesn’t end within the same row ….. demerits ….. still pretty cool – BEGONE, COHERE, LORDLY are super-sixes
I had the same timing of understanding and reaction. Awesome puzzle.
