THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Another 68 worder today. For those who either already make puzzles, or have been reading my writeups lately, know that this one was built from the middle out. I found the NE and SW corners to be a bit trickier than normal, but one the whole, I think, full of some fun stuff. Enjoy.
Enrollment for Year Two of Marching Bands is still rolling. Click here for the rundown and how to sign up.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Solid puzzle, enjoyed the solve, especially 36D. Had tough time in the SE corner as I remember Auden as the author of 46D.
Tossed in FLUFFER for 36D. Close, but no cigar.
@Armagh, yes, maybe a tweak for the clue. Auden was the author of the *poem*, “The Age of Anxiety”, while Yates was a writer *during* the Age of Anxiety.
NE was awful.
That’s Yeats. Yates is Richard Yates, short story writer. (Clue still sucks, though.)
I liked this puzzle, as I didn’t know anything about the Age of Anxiety clue or possible answers.
I found the NE toughest, but it became clear after I set the puzzle aside for a while. I did not know 10D or 27A at all. Two rivers came to mind for 18A, and two words for 11D, both of which worked with one of the rivers.
Ironically, the last to fall was 12D, even though I had spent the morning in a facility so named (routine procedure.) Of course the fact that I had resorted to thinking about the surgeon fish and wondered if it had a fluke, like a whale, showed how far away I was from the correct answer. Blame it on the propofol.
Actually, lit.doc has the right Yates. See here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Yates_%28novelist%29
