So this was my puzzle for Boswords earlier this month. It’s a doozy, so you might need that extra bit of time solving it. Anyway, if you enjoy it, please consider throwing $5 Boswords’ way. Every and all penny goes toward funding the 2018 version. Enjoy.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Difficulty is largely due to the many names IMO. Clever, creative puzzle as usual.
It vvas a 19 minute trek but vvorth every minute of it.
B – When doing it at Boswords, I could not figure out what 72D was all about… I had a mental image of a criminal with ocean waves on his shoulders. I finally went with the correct answer because of the crossings, but it needed to be explained to me afterwards. A great puzzle AND I learned something new.
Why does basmati have a question mark?
How does “brown” relate to The Godfather?

Spoiler answers ahead.
1) Basmati has a question mark because it is a theme clue. When you do the “College Transfer” from 34A, thinwhiterice becomes Thin White Duke (David Bowie).
2) James Brown, the “Godfather of Soul”, played the Apollo Theater many times.
I’ve always associated the question mark with a play on words or a quirky phrase – didn’t realize that it was a rule that all theme entries get a question mark even if the answer is a literal definition.
James Brown – duh! Still, I’ve never heard him referred to as simply The Godfather – it’s always The Godfather of Soul. The Godfather is pretty much Vito or Michael Corleone.
Thanks Hisboi!
