THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Woke up this morning with serious jet lag, and decided to start tackling Frank Longo’s gigantic crossword in the Times “Puzzle Mania” section from a few weeks back. If you haven’t seen it, it’s enormous, it’s supposed to be a broadsheet center fold, except for some dumb reason it’s printed on two different separate pages. Lame. Anyway, I wanna say it’s got like 700 entries. Good God, Frank. I know you’re a Jesus and all, but man, I can’t tell if you also happen to be a masochist. I couldn’t imagine writing that many clues before going completely drooling-on-myself batshit insane. Solid puzzle though.
Random bit of BEQ-ness for you all: my band The Boston Typewriter Orchestra’s song is being used in commercials for the new Spielberg movie “The Post.” Here’s a mini snippet. Pretty wild, eh?
Reminder: This is the LAST WEEK of the end of the year drive. Long story short: the site is free and will always remain free. Just sayin’ that if you’ve enjoyed my work this back half of the year, a $10 tip keeps me happy and productive. Plus, I’ll send you two Sunday-sized puzzles as a thank you. PayPal or Venmo (@TheBEQ) preferred, but if you want to send a check, email me. Want more puzzles? Throw in an additional $10 per title: Marching Bands or Diagramless. Thanks again to all who have been able to chip in.
One randomly selected donor will get more BEQ swag. Huzzah!
Share the puzzle. Another puzzle coming up on Thursday.
Thank God I saw 1A on Jimmy Fallon this week or I would have thought that was a made-up answer.
Congratulations of having your singular 53A clue featured in a major movie commercial. It is entirely appropriate and sounds fabulous.
Enjoy today and have a great new year!
52a “Last___” and 13d LAST CHRISTMAS. for the LAST crossword of the year.
I wish this site had a “Like” button for comments so I wouldn’t have to type this out, but your comment was spot on!
I didn’t see Fallon so I kept looking at that answer with great skepticism that I had gotten it right.
13D instantly gave me an earworm, and a horrible earworm it is! That song might only be surpassed in awfulness by Michael Bolton’s “Our Love Is Like A Holiday”, a song that my daughter and husband have been torturing me with for a decade.
