Have stock grid, will fill. Yeah, maybe it’s not the most stock grid out there, but when confronted with a solid 12-letter seed entry, you’re not given that many choices of where to begin. Still, I like it because once all the marquee answers are placed, the rest of the grid is blocked off into really manageable corners and therefore easier to fill. I had some fun with the cluing this time as well. Enjoy.
Also, when you’re done with this, and my latest Marching Bands (check your inbox if you’re a subscriber, otherwise, sign up today), why don’tcha do the New Yorker’s latest crossword? I really enjoyed their mini-cryptics from the 90s, and I suspect this go-around will be entertaining as well. Looking forward to solving this.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
48A — [Rock band whose original name was The Vegetables] is incorrect. Their original name was The Farriss Brothers, and they were clued as such ([Sydney band originally called The Farriss Brothers]) in the Los Angeles Times crossword of January 5th this year. The name The Vegetables came later, and was short-lived.
One of many sources backing this up: See “the band’s original name was the Farriss Brothers” at https://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/inxs-new-sensation-19880616 .
I don’t get 50A Club turn. I worked it out to ACT but I’m still lost. Otherwise solid puzzle.
I wondered about that too, but I suspect that’s “club” as in “cabaret.”
