This Sunday! (Sunday! Sunday!) At the Roxbury Latin School in Boston! Boswords is upon us. Has it been a year already? Actually, it’s been a little less than a year as last one’s was in August. But I digress. It’s another opportunity to flex your speed solving muscles and mingle with the xword family. Hopefully in air conditioning as Greater Boston is going through it’s swamp weather stretch of the summer. No matter, I say. First prize is a trip to next year’s American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. Second prize is a set of steak knives cool crossword swag. The lineup is superb: me, Pahk, Lieb, Kingsley, Braunstein, Quarfoot, Vigeland and Webb. This seems like a no-brainer. Click the above link and register today, or pay for the at home division. We’re just ten shy of matching last year’s total number of participants. Let’s do this.
And to get us all in the right mind frame, here was my puzzle from last year’s Boswords. Enjoy.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Nice theme! First time I had heard of that particular Bowie persona.
Hmm, clues are chopped off on the right.
Got most of this at the tournament last year. Still had trouble re-doing it now (tried to hold off on what I knew after the fact and approach it fresh), particularly the northwest, which was my downfall then. Was embarrassed then and again now at how long it took me to get 1D. Didn’t know then and had to look up now the “transfer” for 79A, although it was, I think, an early entry from the cluing.

So this is vvhat the BOSVVORDS is like? Got reason to be smugly optimistic then. ALSO, i haven’t SUBSETTED in years, and curiously that hasn’t even diminished my solving ability. But it vvasn’t going to hurt if i took up learning some terms. So to start off, i got the book YOGA For Dummies and decided to vvrite dovvn every term used in Yoga. A major challenged as these terms are in a foreign language most people are not going to be familiar vvith. Also taking up some of these practices in Yoga, vvondering if that vvill even increase my solving speed.
