THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
December is here. The countdown begins on a lot of things. Weeks left to get terrible vices only to vow to break them come New Year’s Eve. Days left to not finish, but begin holiday shopping. Hours left until I personally gorge myself stupid on Christmas cookies, probably this afternoon.
It’s also the beginning of the year end December drive. Regulars know the drill: the site is free and shall remain free forever. Come on down, solve a few puzzles, try the veal, have a blast. It’s all good, and it’s all free. What good is the Internet if things aren’t free? Know what I mean? All I’m asking is, that if you have enjoyed my work from the back half of the year, a small tip helps keep the machine running smoothly. And in a “scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” moment, everyone who can tip $15 will receive two bonus Sunday puzzles, one themed, one themeless. It’s like a super-sized week of BEQ-ness. All the usual methods are accepted. PayPal and Venmo (@TheBEQ) preferred. You can always email me to arrange other ways of tipping too.
Now you might be saying, “$15 that seems like a lot.” But since this is the ‘thank you” for half a year’s worth of puzzly goodness, plus the bonus content, it’s really more like 54 puzzles than just two. Some food for thought.
Drive ends on New Year’s Eve. One randomly selected tipper will receive a copy of “Octopus Crosswords,” and a gift subscription to the independent puzzle service of their choice. Thanks again to all who can chip in.

Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
a first lady is not a heroine
Merriam Webster defines “heroine” as “the principal female character in a literary or dramatic work”, and “leading lady” as “an actress who plays the leading female role”.
Hence [First lady?], which is legitimized by the question mark. [First lady] would not suffice.
bottom lover = titania ???
It’s from A Midsummer Night’s Dream — Nick Bottom and Titania, queen of the faeries.
