Absolutely zero points awarded for figuring out what the original seed answer was for this one. Shout out to Evan Birnholz for helping me massage this one to it’s fully realized form. Enjoy.

Wow
I enjoyed this puzzle and finished with no errors, but it took me a long time (with some major problems in the upper right, since I’d never heard of DAUBE Provençal or HUEY Lewis and was only vaguely aware of the movie BOYHOOD). The theme entries are clever and amusing, but … I feel as if there’s something about PSORIASIS NEWTON that I have not managed to grok. Anybody want to clue me in?
Sir Isaac Newton. You have never heard of Huey Lewis and the News!? Yeah, there were a lot of new clues for me but could solve them with the crosses.
Lots o’ fun and giggles! And DAUBE (which I got from the crosses) sounds delicious (I looked it up). Thank you so much, Brendan!
I understand that “PSORIASIS NEWTON” refers to Sir Isaac Newton, but the nature of the play on words is not as clear to me as it is for “BURL HIVES”, “HUEY LUPUS”, “TINEA TURNER”, and “ECZEMA POUND” (though I have a little problem with that last one, as well). I guess I just wanted a little more motivation for the transformation of SIR ISAAC into PSORIASIS and EZRA into ECZEMA.
And no, I’d never heard of “Huey Lewis and the News” (though, like you, I inferred Huey’s probable last name from crossing entries). Shockingly, there are probably lots of other things I’ve never heard of … :-).
Groan.
DAUBE Provencal is very delicious. The onion, carrot and tomato give it a sweetness and richness way better than the average beef stew.
For the record: I finally realized that my original problem was the result of comparing PSORIASIS with just ISAAC, rather than SIR ISAAC. Still not completely happy with ECZEMA/EZRA, though. (Picky, picky, picky … 😜.)
