THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
I’d been toying with doing some theme around the idea at 18-Across for the past week. No spoilers, but if you like a clean solve, you might want to hold off on the rest of the post. Actually, I’m going to be pretty specific so maybe now’s the time to stop reading. So, you’ve been warned. Anyway I couldn’t help but read the answer’s first four letters as a command that lives in the realm of crosswordese and galley proofs. Your friend and mine: dele. So narutally, the part of my brain that creates themes was looking to see if the rest of the letters in that answer (gate or gates) could be removed from other phrases to create hilarity. I even looked to see if removing any famous gates like say Bill from words would yield anything. Alas, I came up with nothing. So if anybody out there reading this wants to do something with that concept, well, be my guest. Instead, the answer lives in today’s themeless puzzle.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Love that picture. I think my favorite QE meme was this same picture (taken at the Olympics) captioned: “Look at all these countries I used to own…”
Great puzzle, too. Thanks!
Nice puzzle.
