THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
A funny thing happened while I was cluing this puzzle. You see I’d made the grid early on in the week and then shelved it a couple days before cluing it. And so, I completely forgot what was in the grid. The whole thing was quote-unquote “brand new” to my eyes. Well, the funny thing happened when I stumbled upon, um, that answer, you’ll know it when you see it. So yeah, when I saw that answer, my eyes bugged right out. I was like, “oh man, you’re telling me I have a critical typo in a grid, in a 66-worder at that, and I’m going to have to rip this mega-wide open thing apart?” Then I looked at it again and realized, nope, it was supposed to look that way. For you see, I wan’t you to have that feeling where you must have made a mistake while solving the puzzle. Not the other way around. Good times. Good times.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
IMHO one of the worst puzzles I’ve seen you offer. A mess of names, places, obscure factoids, the need to add a state letter code to a clue that asks for a city etc.
I liked the puzzle – generally I like the edginess in your clues and answers. However, I was saddened by the clue for 27D. I do puzzles for challenges, fun, laughs, and learning, and edginess is great, but that clue was just depressing and a little scary. It seems as though there would be many fairly good ways to clue that answer.
Thanks for listening. Still a fan.
Any time you can solve a challenging puzzle that gives you a couple grins, learn a few things, without any lucky guesses, it’s a satisfying experience. Thanks again.
