THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Oh, the joys (power?) of independent puzzling. Yesterday’s breaking news appears in today’s crossword. Boom. Take that, print media! But that’s not all that I’d like to mention about this offering. I want to take a moment to reflect on 1-Across. If you guessed I did a mic drop after writing that clue, you’d be right. It’s moments like these that make me say: “I love my job.”
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Nice, and that makes two puzzles this week that have made us of Ms. Yousafzai’s fifteen letters!
The problem with using “classic” songs in clues is that the lyrics change so much version to version. Besides the people in the first line varying (grandma, grandpa, spy boy, flag boy), almost all versions have them sitting “on the Bayou.” In fact the only version I’ve ever heard where they’re sitting “by the fire” is the Dixie Cups, which is probably the best know, but certainly not classic. Or even arguably N’Awlins.

11:35 — a few checks and two reveals. Terrific puzzle!! I am going to have to memorize the spelling of a certain name!!
Not enough names in the SW. 🙂
Good puzzle. Knowing 7D made it easier. One quibble, 47D is misleading as a clue. A Creole is stable, full-fledged language with its own grammar, vocabulary and usage governance. A dialect would be a regional variant of a parent language. Cajun Creole is one of a couple of dozen recognized Creole languages.
55A great clue.
