SURE AS SHOOTING: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
PROGRAM: [Java]
For a very short while, I was trying to find a way to build a puzzle titled, well … one of the theme answers that appears in this puzzle. I had a couple ideas, none of them were particularly promising, and a couple of them never should be seen by human eyes. At the end of the day, I felt that the most promising one would have just been a rip-off of this classic [ACROSS LITE] [PDF]. On the one hand, when you rip yourself off it’s called “style.” On the other hand, why try to improve on what was already perfect? So, the phrase went from the title and into the theme and a new puzzle was born. That’s the great thing about crosswords, you’ve got a couple places to showcase new phrases. Hope you enjoy it.

Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
8 minutes! Glad your computer stuff is sorted out and thanks for the extra puzzles.
My wife has been urging me to make a puzzle about 21-Across, except she wanted it to be a reference to the old kid’s toy. Is that the theme answer that you wanted to be your puzzle title?
I enjoyed this one. Makes me wonder why the NYT Mon-Wed puzzles can’t exhibit this level of quality.
I haven’t worked the puzzle you linked to yet, but I assume that the dedicatee of that puzzle is BEQ. Am I right?
Yes, BEQ is the dedicatee of the linked puzzle. Every word has those three letters.
As for the puzzle here, great fun! I am impressed by the fill; I’m scarcely a crossword expert, but there was nothing laborious about completing the fill. 15A’s clue was great!
Also, you misspelled my name. I’m Fikes, not Filkes. I don’t write sci-fi parodies of music… 🙂
