MARCHING BANDS: [ PDF]
PROGRAM: [Adobe Reader]
My latest book of “Marching Bands” puzzles is finally out, and to celebrate why not post a brand new Marching Bands puzzle? Sounds like a great idea. If this puzzle is your thing, then there are 42 of them just like it in the book, and at a, um, backbreaking price of $5.36, what’s your excuse? I didn’t think you had one. So click away and buy two.
I give a shout out to a couple people in the introduction, but it bears repeating here on this blog. Huge thanks to Alex Boisvert for writing a boss program that assisted in the more complicated sections of the grids. Also, tip of the cap to Francis Heaney who not only vetted the book as it was being written but also offered a couple amazing seed entries. And last but not least, acknowledgments to Crossword Jesus Mike Shenk for creating the form in the first place. It blew my mind when I first saw these puzzles in Games Magazine, and I only hope that my puzzles do the same for you.
Buy the book. Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
These are such fun puzzles! I went through the book over a few days — puzzling late into the night. Buy the book. (It’s adorable too.)
I am quite pleased with the book. The format fits in my oversized purse, and the 11×11 size is compatible with those unexpected waits. I do like this format, and BEQ does it so well. Ellen
MY EYES the solution on the second page of the PDF. Maybe you could have separate PDFs, one for the puzzle and one for the solution?
Thanks for the shout-out.
I’m going to highly recommend the book, too. For me, the “Sit and Solve” usually turns into a “Sit and Solve 3 or 4 in a row.” The puzzles are all really slick with a ton of original word collisions. Great stuff, even if it often makes me late for work in the morning!
Love the book, Brendan, and some of those puppies aren’t so easy! I took it with me on my recent trip, and took a picture of the book in front of the Flame Towers in Baku, Azerbaijan. Your work gets around! – Anne E.
The pdf file has only one clue “The realistic Joneses” and the solution is entirely blank. Help!
