Recipe for BEQ’s theme development: Take a Patrick Berry puzzle and do something similar only slightly different. Call it my own. Take a word/phrase/name in the news, let it percolate for a while. Over time, the seed screams out some kind of wordplay, be it a pun, transformation, a rebus, etc. The rest is academic. Or course, that’s not the only way I develop themes. But it’s certainly the case for today’s.
For those who like to read newspapers bought by Internet billionaires, there is nice Washington Post article about a guy who did a guest puzzle for this here site about a year ago. Fun read and fun crossword.
