Only 62 words in this baby. A number so surprisingly low, I had to check twice. Pay no attention to the 41 black squares required to make it happen (that’s 3 more than normally kosher for grids of this size). Instead, focus on how whistle-clean the solve is.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
A clean machine, all right. Smooth sailing until the SW corner.
SW was rough. 35A as a plural threw me a little. Getting 30D broke it open, though.
Agreed with the others — southwest was a killer. I put in JOE BUCK before JIM ROME and EASE UP before RELENT. HIBERNIA/HULOT cross was a total guess.
ROAD RASH brought back memories of the old Sega Genesis game of the same name.
A short time after I made the life decision to take up solving crosswords (Arthur Wynne died on a crossword), I caught notice of this interesting tv show on PBS called Sneak Previews. Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert took on the popular movies that we’d been going out to see. Not to mention the foreigns, indies, Culties, docs, etc. And dogs, too. How was I too know that Roger EBERT would be the person I’ve seen more on tv than anyone else on tv. I bought 12 volumes of his reviews, most of which overlap. This seems like a lifetme commitment to a pop group (for mich, RUSH, it would be. Sorry girlies, BEEBER won’t work that way.) These are some formative years. I have to say just one more thing about this: THE BALCONY IS NOW CLOSED. Due to a certain END OF AN ERA. & Bet this won’t carry through to anything else.
As for this BEQWXP, I stick ’em out with Ebertian zeal, and it pays off. 39A to get this solved. 45D Whose TEN? Chicago? (i know, i know, Pearl Jam’s). 23A Instant classic for a clue. Also, “Holes in the Head” would work. Much smaller though. 14A CLIPCLOP? no one letter too short. Thot of the gun tho. I think there may be a lot of members of the NRA who do the XWPs. Right? Anybody know about this for a fact? 3D Forgot who this girl’s name was. I’m familiar with the song, so I got cryptomnesiac for a minute. Victor Herbert’s MARIETTA, I would not be familiar with. & I don’t RIP people who just died. So, WWMY, Margaret Thatcher, a sort of antistereotype when you think of it, and Annette Funicello, Beach Bummette.

I can’t be the only one who confidently entered AJA, leading to a long mess to untangle in an already thorny southwest. It is actually #145, by the way.
23 across just made me think of this Simpsons line:

Well, I got it, so it was not THAT hard.
The reason is, you did not post a Tabitha picture, so the gods punished you by letting a senior citizen solve one of your Hard puzzles like it was a hot knife cutting through butter.
You were warned.
