ACROSS LITE PUZZLE: [ THEMELESS MONDAY]

Big shocker, 1-Across was today’s seed entry. I started this grid off with 1-Across as the last entry on the bottom, but I found no appealing fills. Therefore, applying the go big or go home rule, I moved it to the penthouse spot. Hmm. Penthouse. I kind of like that as a crossword term. Okay. New rule everybody. Henceforth, all marquee entries at the 1-Across spot of a themeless shall be referred to as “penthouses.” I guess, continuing that metaphor, we can call tired answers like REASSESSES, SESAME SEEDS, EYE TESTS, etc. that run along the bottom of themeless grids as “outhouses.” Penthouse/outhouse. Hold your applause. Thank me later.
(The real reason I wanted to use “penthouse” is that Liz redid the living room at BEQ.com headquarters, and I wanted to run a picture. The candles are a nice touch.)
Anyway, back to the puzzle. The original clue I had for 1-Across was (ROT13d) {Gjrra gbc}. Kinda boring, especially for a penthouse. So after a brainstorming sessions with a few other puzzle folks, we came up with what you have here. Though, I will say, for a very short moment, I thought about using {Fhccbeg sbe gubfr jub jvyy or ohfgrq?}. Too funny.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
trying to figure out the relationship between MORTAL SIN and TRAINING BRA
I had 1-Across on my word list, clued as {Youth support group}. I’ll guess I’ll cross it off now. 🙂
No, seriously, whose place is that a picture of ?
Fun one. I got 99% of it but couldn’t quite finish the top left because I thought EASYA was SAUNA and when I tried to figure out 1-DOWN all I could come up with was “America the Beautiful” and the Paul Simon song.
Living room is beautiful. Now unleash the infant!
1A Thot this was TRAFFIC_ _ _ _. What support are we talking about here? 8D Thot this was turning out to be BLURRY! LEGALEAGLES was a film from the 1980s starring Daryl Hannah and Robert Redford. Thot you could go in that direction. For the “Hell” clue, thot it was VENIALSIN. 13D “Puts Back” was difficult in its simplicity. 1 that I didn’t think I’d ever get. 3D & the EASYA clues were insp. The clues involving “Burlesque”, “Julia & Julia”, and “The Ballon D’Or” would put the seasoned to the test. + This was very difficult but actually accomplishable.
C’mon. Don’t you recognize what we’ve done with the curtains?
Original “…not busted?” clue = awesome.
Thought I was gonna get done in 15-20, my usual time range for these, but that NW quadrant slowed me to a crawl. 1A was witty enough, though I too prefer the ROT13D version even more. A number of standout clues here, but my personal Fave is 26A. Great stuff!
