Note to self: Always best to double check things while you’re developing themes. I almost used GOOGLEPLEX in this puzzle, only to find out, it’s an honest-to-goodness thing. Namely, their offices. Who knew? Okay, Tyler Hinman knew that, but that’s because he worked there. And he’s a trivia warehouse. Feel free to call yourself a trivia warehouse if you knew that factoid as well.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday. As well as a contest announcement. Get psyched.
Trivia warehouse is I. But then, when you live an hour away, you’re more likely to know.
I recently started solving here, and this is my first post. I truly enjoy these challenging puzzles, and I appreciate being able to compare my times to elite solvers. It confirms what I thought, that I am a plodder! Thank you, Brendan, for an excellent site!
A googolplex was a one followed by a googol of zeroes. It was coined by Edward Kasner when he heard his son came up with the word, even tho there was a comic strip at the time called BARNEY GOOGLE. What I want to know is what do mathematicians do with a number like that?
One more thing: the logo of GOOGLE reminds me of the color arrangement of SPARKLES, a candy usually sold at movie theaters. Think that’s where they got the idea.
Mathematicians don’t do anything with it; it’s a non-mathematician’s idea of what mathematics is about. And the nth isn’t the “ultimate” degree either.
