In the very likely chance the phrase “letter bank” (referenced in 10-Across in today’s puzzle) is new to you, allow me to explain. A letter bank is a word or phrase that has no repeated letters. From that bank longer words or phrases are formed by using all the letters in the bank at least once and as many more times as needed (in the case of today’s puzzle 1-Across).
Clear as mud? Now, share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.

Oddly, I got 1 and 2A from crosses/guesses, but the mid-south stumped me. Why in God’s name I can’t get CAULK when spotted the AU is beyond me.
I’m starting to enjoy the pop/rap/musical clues and answers more by treating them like the made up words and phrases in the Cuckoo puzzles. (No offense, I hope.)
In the year 1980 AD, (aka 68 XWP) I knew every song on the Billboard top 40 chart. Probably knew every song in the top 100 FTM. These days, forget it. I have a vague idea about some of the names of these people who get a lot of attention. I’m pretty knowledgeable on the EBM groups.
Another fun puzzle, thanks! Didn’t know 1A (in fact, had to look that up after the fact to see how to parse it) or 66A. One question, shouldn’t 11D by HANNAY? Where did the AY go? I only know that because I happened to read “The 39 Steps” last year. I enjoy spy fiction a lot and John Buchan basically invented the genre.
oops, meant to say “shouldn’t 11D *be* HANNAY”, not by HANNAY.
I feel good, first HARD puzzle that I’ve finished in some time with no “outside” help. I did know the Ke$ha song but didn’t know how it was spelled. I believe it was the overall #1 hit of the year. I will try and stump my daughter with the Harry Potter trivia.
Wow, cool puzzle with all of the pop culture needing a passport to even enter the vicinity of my wheelhouse. It hurt bad. Especially cross-referencing Jersey Shore. That made the hurting hurt with extra hurtfulness.
Well-done.
