This one’s for everybody who’s travelling this holiday season. You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers.
Share the puzzle. New one tomorrow.
Too hard to finish for me. I am dense, I’m sure, but I don’t get the theme. I see the change-a-letter pun in 17A and 35A but don’t get 19A, 52A or 57A. Please answer my question and let me return to the minors in shame.
Timely. Very hardest part was far SW—never heard of VEAL OSCAR and didn’t even figure out that was the base phrase until I played around with possible puns for “FEEL.” Nice work.
Nice rightward slant for those “liberal media” haters with JAN Brewer and MARCO Rubio. Again, very contemporary. Good job.
I finished, but I’m as baffled as Jojo. Rex explains (sort of) FEELOSCAR (and yes, that little corner took ages), but I still don’t understand 19A or 52A. Puns referring to something, I suppose, but what I don’t know… Then again, as I may have mentioned once or twice before, I HATE PUNS! ABOMINATE THEM!
That one didn’t grab me. And I thank you for that. I didn’t want to have you arrested.
I’ve had RUBIO on my “must-use” list for a while.
My take on the other puns:
pet sounds (beach boy album)
double clutch (driving technique)
sour grapes
oriental rug
Presumably 19A is a pun on “DUTCH” and 52A is a letter change from “RUG”. Just got back from a long trip but no one tried to get too close.
Originally put Soulsearch for 35A since it seemed to fit, but probably didn’t fit the theme
I couldn’t remember De La Hoya’s first name, and then didn’t get the pun once I had enough checks to get it. I figured it was FEEL though, so the rest came in down there.
With ENL, ENV and ENC, I was hoping we’d get ENT or ENO too!
I’ve had Ricky Rubio on my “must-see” list for a while.
As a shoebomber reference, SOLE SEARCH would’ve fit the theme.
FWIW, the clue for 2D should be “New York city formerly home to…”, as the HOF closed its doors in February.
I really enjoyed this one (I’ve discovered this site recently since going on a puzzle binge and have been working my way back). I love how in touch your puzzles are with current issues (my all time favorite is RENT is too damn high). Your wordplay is terrific and humor is right up my alley.
This puzzle made me laugh. Thank you. Keep up the great work.
