ACROSS LITE PUZZLE: [ MERGE RECORDS]
PROGRAM: [Across Lite]

PRINTOUT PUZZLE: [ MERGE RECORDS]
PROGRAM: [Adobe Acrobat]
Heads up, this one ran originally in Paste. I’ve changed some of the clues so they aren’t so indie-centric. Having said that, this is a bit heavy on the music. And no, it’s not about Merge Records.
The vacation’s been going well, thanks for asking. Been doing loads of biking and swimming. Bout two-thirds of the way through Gore Vidal’s “Burr.” Haven’t thought about making puzzles too much, though I have jotted down a few ideas to pursue later.
What’s been most troubling is that I haven’t done much of anything in the way of solving. Just the odd New York Times puzzle if we see a discarded copy lying around. I fear that this slip in my training for Lollapuzzoola will open up the door for my arch nemesis Jared Hersh to humiliate me at the contest. I’m heading down for NYC tomorrow, and I guess I’d better bring some puzzles for last minute carbo loading exercise.
Like how I set myself up with built-in excuses should I fuck up this weekend?
Any way, just throwing it out there: any and all faithful visitors of the site who will be at Lollapuzzoola, please come on up and say hey. Full report on the contest/my battle to the death against Jared Hersh/pictures/innuendos/etc. will be here on Monday. With a new crossword. In the meantime, share the puzzle.
Fun puzzle. A solid medium for me even knowing most of the albums. Last to fall was the far NE corner because my brain got stuck on Computer Games (George Clinton) even though that didn’t fit the clue in any way. Nice OAHU/INOUYE pairing. A minor quibble – I’ve never seen it referred to as CBGB’s – with a possessive – just CBGB or the longer CBGB & OMFUG. Good luck at Lollapuzzoola!
Loved “Burr”. Be sure and read “Lincoln” and “1876” as well. “Lincoln” is a great fictional companion to “Team of Rivals” which was popular last year.
See you at Lollapuzzoola!
Al
The clue for 69A was a little bit mean, which of course means I really laughed. Pleased I got as much of this as I did, given nearly total absence of popular music/computer games/TV show knowledge.
Expect you’ll fare very well at puzzle tourney; try not to humiliate Jared Hersch too brutally.
_Burr_ was a great read– catty gossip from 200+ years back–what could be better?
Yay! One I could solve!
(Loved the temporary hangup I had at deceitful 11D.)
