ACROSS LITE PUZZLE: [ THEMELESS MONDAY]

PRINTOUT PUZZLE: [ THEMELESS MONDAY]
PROGRAM: [Adobe Acrobat]
Heroic game last night. The Saints displayed stones the size of Eurasia yesterday. An onside kick to start the half? WTF? Drew Brees: wow. What can you say? Definitely he takes over for Bledsoe atop the list of “Best QBs with the first name ‘Drew.'” And yeah, okay, Peyton Manning is good, great even. But let’s face it, he sucks on the big stage. His .500 record in the post-season speaks volumes. Can we just cut it out with the Greatest of All Time diatribe argument? He wasn’t even the best QB of the decade (that’d be Tom F. Brady, thank you).
Okay, enough sports.
I just took a quick look at the calendar and saw the friggin’ ACPT is next week? Holy mackerel. Where’d the time go? Looks like Valentine’s Day is this week too. (Note to self: don’t forget Valentine’s Day.) You’re all coimng right? No, silly. To the ACPT, not to my Valentine’s Day date night. Roll call for the ACPT in the comments section, please. I think these next couple posts I shall be delving a little about the Tournament, so look for something a little more, oh, I dunno, evocative Wednesday => on.
Share the puzzle. New one on Wednesday.
It really was a great game. How I know this: I did not fall asleep until the 30-17 score looked unassailable.
Um, quoting: “Can we just cut it out with the Greatest of All Time diatribe?” I am sure you want some other word, as ‘diatribe’ is the opposite of a word of praise or honor.
No hand up for ACPT, though I hope a lot of people blog about it! Good luck to everyone! Eventually I would love to go, but it will be just for the experience; I won’t be a threat, let’s just put it that way!
Great freestyle puzzle…but definitely need to fix the 11D/ 19A square
I am proud to say that I am breaking my ACPT cherry this year…see ya there, BEQ!
Yikes. Thanks for that catch. See you next week.
Should the clue for 35A be plural?
See you at the ACPT!
Great puzzle as usual. As far as the ACPT, I’ll be there assuming the East Coast can stop getting snow long enough to let my plane land. I think Ellen is bribing Will to move the tournament to earlier dates to increase the likelihood of airport closures :-)!
I’ll be back at the ACPT next week. Missed it last year due to work commitments, but arranged it so I could attend this year.
Assuming the weather, Olympic security, airport security and Homeland security cooperate, I’ll be there.
Brady: not close to Manning. Not by time their careers are over. And I’m not a Peyton fan. (But I am a Patriots hater, so not exactly impartial.)
I will be judging again this year. See you all there!
I’ll be there for my second go-round at the ACPT; are you authoring another puzzle for the tourney, Brendan?
Like Al, I’m having weather angst (I’ve had weather-related flight problems for 2 out of my previous 3 ACPTs), but if all goes well, I’ll be there.
Anne E, taking one of my required furlough days tomorrow to shovel the TONS MORE SNOW scheduled to fall between now and Tues night, and shaking head over state’s financial situation.
I’ll be there. I’ve been traveling so much lately that I probably would have forgotten to book my hotel room until next week without your reminder. If it only weren’t so darn expensive to stay in/travel to New York…. 🙁
I’ll be there. My only goal, the same as the last two years, is to *not* make mistakes when I know the correct answer. &*(% adrenaline 🙂
I’ll be there for my second year. Goal this year – finish in the top half. Just missed it last year. Hardest part in today’s puzzle was finally realizing it was Mama’s Family, NOT Big Momma’s house! I’m guessing Vicki and Martin aren’t related.
I’m like Elaine in Arkansas — I follow the blogging about the tournament, but I’ve never been. Maybe someday I’ll meet the bloggers and commenters I’ve enjoyed here and elsewhere.
W/R/T puzzle # 184, I couldn’t seem to get traction anywhere at first, but ultimately it went down about like a Medium.
I was going to go to the ACPT but then I did the puzzles in the WordPlay book and discovered that I would have finished 335th out of ~500 if I had been there. I had a total meltdown on the David J. Kahn puzzle. If I spend all that money for travel and accommodations I would like to finish better than that.
So I am having the puzzles mailed to me for $20 so I can do it at home.
BTW, I would love to see Unicode in a puzzle. It is the new ASCII.
Umm….MASSAGIST? EPINAL? seriously? Thankfully CHELSEA and its clue redeemed this one a bit for me. (That said, Glory Glory Man United!)
i’m there.
Me too. Hopefully not eating Joon’s dust.
I’ll be at ACPT again this year, wearing a judge’s hat for the first time. See all y’all there!
MN
Whoa, Nothnagel’s crossed over to the Dark Side, BEQ! Some sort of hazing is definitely in order.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Like jimmy d, will also be breaking my ACPT cherry…but flying in this Friday to visit family and friends so will be in the area a week in advance.
Woohoo! See ya there!
Be nice to us all, Mike. I’ll try to do my part for the judges and not write in arcane, runic squiggles again this year.
There is also a EPINAC which is a French commune albeit in the east of France which also works for the down fill.
West Coaster, no trip to ACPT in my near or long term future.
I’m taking the train into the ACPT again this year. See you all there.
I’ll be there, and will try to remember to fill in all boxes this year.
In it to win it, baby. In it to win it.
(Um, actually, I won’t be attending this year. So the field will be wide open.)
I couldn’t finish this puzzle. (I did get that mean little 9-square pimple in the NE, though.) As for QBs, I like Peyton among the top-drawer current quarterbacks because (i) he’s kind of dorky-looking and (ii) he was funny on SNL, which nobody, NFL-affilated or otherwise, manages to be.
john, i’m mostly hoping not to eat yours. do you realize how improbable it is that you’re even still eligible for B? if they had found that scoring error earlier in 2008, or dan had made the A final in 2009 … anyway, here’s hoping we’ll see each other on stage next sunday.
I’d love to attend the ACPT, but it’s not happening owing to geographical difficulties. Insanely jealous of those that are!
In case anyone is still listening, I will be attending my second ACPT. I have been practicing for #5, but still do not expect to crawl out of C division. Looking forward to the trip, which for me begins Wednesday.
treedweller (using FB sign-in for the first time–sharing the puzzle!)
well, that didn’t work like I’d expected. I will actively share the puzzle there now.
I just love to play puzzle games with my niece as it is always something quite exciting for me. I will again play this game with my princess after coming back from my https://www.goldenbustours.com/niagara-falls-bus-tour-packages/
