This one I owe all to Liz. When asking her for other candidates for this puzzle, she dropped the money shot. So, it’s all Liz, but I’m going to pretend it was all me. Enjoy.
Looking for more puzzles? The Hub Crossword (Sunday puzzles by me and Emily Cox and Henry Rathvon) and Marching Bands year seven have begun. So if that To Do list needs even more puzzles, you know what to do.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Just a heads up…Big dupe at 59 Across. Can’t believe it would be intended.
It was intended, but to tell you why would be a bit of a spoiler. Gave me pause, as well, until the “aha” moment.
Thanks! I see it now.(Give self an AHA, followed by WELL,DUH…of COURSE!)
Well – I don’t get it. 🙁
Actually, I don’t get any of the “localized” answers. *sigh*
Got it…but don’t get it.
Better than an aha moment, an actual-laugh out-loud moment!
I get it, but still the breaking of the “rules” of crosswording made 59-across very hard to get. I would rate this one Hard. Took me a long time to complete.
LOLOLOL — this is a winner! (Not that any BEQ puzzle is anything less…but…)
I’m with LHJ — a freaking laughing out loud moment…actually several minutes. Beautiful. I’m weeping.
Thank you, LIZ!!!
This theme is [CHEF’S KISS]. 59 got me good and I snarfed HARD when I got it.
I actually groaned and rolled my eyes at 59 Across. It’s not often I get dad-joke level reactions from crosswords, but when I do, it’s a BEQ puzzle every time.
It’s been a few days. Maybe a spoiler is OK now? I still don’t get it.
Hard to explain, but think of it like this:
How do you say “[WORD]” when you’re in “[COUNTRY]”?
“Big”in Japan is “Oki.”
“Not for all the tea” in China is “bùshi suoyou de chá.”
“Born” in the USA is “Born”.
Meh 🤷♂️
that was a great one….think it was a hardium
Agreed! Very clever.
Good puzzle, EXCELLENT punchline. You married up my friend.
