IN A FOG: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]

Strange coincidence running a puzzle called “In a Fog,” when I sort of woke up in a fog today. You see, last night was a family celebration. And we got some rather decadent cupcakes for the occasion, and, uh, well, Liz didn’t eat hers. So that meant the ole Biz Quig ate two of them. Tabitha, who is normally a factory when it comes to sweet-consumption, stopped mid-way through hers and agreed it was too much. Of course, that didn’t stop her from finishing it. Anyway, I’d made the move to drastically cut out sugar from my diet. It’s not completely gone, but excess sugar is kept to a minimum. However, last night called for a easing up on the restriction. And so, my eating the two decadent treats led to an entire evening of paranoid nightmare-fueled dreams. I’d bother to explain them but they don’t make any sense. Being trapped in an alternate universe populated with life-sized insects. That kinda strangeness. Anyway, I’m in a fog indeed.

What’s the HOLY GRAIL of crossword solving? Learning how someone like one of the top 300 solvers in this country (who would have English as a primary language) could continually and serially solve every crossword coming their way without fail (leaving for a little allowance). Understanding that would lead to the possibility of AI coming close to being the real thing.
