CAN I GET BACK TO YOU?: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Inside baseball here: I made this one back during the Great Flurry of Puzzle Writing (December 2016 edition). And a first draft of this puzzle had a completely different answer at 37-Down (and surrounding fill). I can’t remember what said answer was, but, it stunk up the joint big time. My testers hated it. Frankly, I hated it. But hey, sometimes you have answers that you just have to, you know, “live with” and hope don’t cause too much of a kerfuffle to the solver. Well, this wasn’t one of those times and I had to really dig deep to find a different fill for that corner. Anyway, I point it out because what eventually became the answer at 37-Down is one of those Hail Mary-type answers that are just so perfect, it feels like it was the only answer that could have possibly worked there. I love that it looks like a completely different word until you parse it the correct way. Anyway, hope you enjoy it, and the crossword.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Looking forward to “Take Brendan to Work Day.”
11D isn’t the same as its clue. Not at all!
Trish is correct. Antelope and Elk are two entirely different genera.
The 12 year old in me says, who doesn’t like a puzzle with a fecal sub-theme: SHIT, GUANO and BMS? That’s what makes BEQ’s puzzle real.
