Got my hands on my latest book “Octopus Crosswords” this week. Once again, it’s a nice attractive package from the geniuses at Puzzlewright. You might be asking, “what’s an octopus crossword?” They’re really Helter Skelter puzzles that, well, the marketing team thought might be a tough sell with that name. Fair enough, it’s a good compromise. Anyway, for those unfamiliar with the form, they’re mini 8×8 themelesses where the answers go in one long continuous line throughout the whole grid snaking in eight different directions. They’re not particularly back-breaking puzzles; I’d put them at a solid “easy” or “easy-medium” difficulty. I’m not quite sure how expert solvers might make things harder for themselves; downs-only is right out, that’s for sure. But, it’s a fun collection, and like I say in the introduction, this might make for a good “gateway drug” to the more adventurous variety puzzles out there. Pre-order two copies today to get that stereo solving experience.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
