ACROSS LITE PUZZLE: [ THEMELESS MONDAY]

Took a different tack with this one. Sure, I started at 1-Across, and I set out to make sure that corner was extra-chunky. But instead of immediately going to the southeast corner, I continued on in a clockwise fashion. Mostly because I wanted to have fun/flexible stuff crossing in the middle. So it seemed like a safe strategy. Needless to say the southeast corner was a capital B-Bear to fill in. The candidates that were tried at 25-Down alone would be enough to make a tour de force themeless puzzle. No doubt you’ll see some of these attempts in future grids. Anyway: note to self: don’t do the clockwise construction again.
Quick side bar: you all saw David Quarfoot’s puzzle in the Times this past Saturday, right? I lost count of the way too many juicy entries, mostly because I was jealous that I hadn’t debuted them first. Anyway, back to the recap.
Surprise: my favorite clue is 4-Down. With a close second of 45-Across. Overall, it feels hard, but not like pile-driver hard. Hope you enjoy it.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
