Whew, that contest was a doozy. Still, it didn’t deter 68 of you from giving it a shot. The brainiacs who solved last Thursday’s puzzle uncovered a question that was the next step in the contest: WHAT CAR CAN / YOU FIND IN THIS / GRID BY PULLING / ITS TOP DOWN? And that’s where the wheels came off. There were more than a handful of strange wrong answers, Coupe and Aston Martin were the two that came in the most. Many solvers figured that the Chevy AVEO might have been the answer since it appeared in the grid. 36 entrants were able to spot the KIA RIO. For you see, if you dragged down the letters ARI, that were directly on top of the answer KIMONO, you found a KIA RIO. See grid below:
Two correct entries deserved a mention: John Wilson of Shoreville, MN, added “Enter the dragon, you might say?” while David Plotkin of Mississippi State, MS, wrote, “Very clever meta. Do I get any bonus points for noticing the Jamaican fellow behind the wheel?”
Our two randomly selected winners are Scott Weiss of Emmitsburg, MD, and J. T. Williams of Pasadena, CA. Scott and J.T. win a copy of my soon-to-be-published book Sex, Drugs & Rock ‘n’ Roll Crosswords.” Thanks to all who entered. Click away to secure your own copy.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
