On the twelfth day of puzzling, Liz (my true love, duh) gave to me: twelve more asshats retweeting the unfunny joke “I met the bloke who invented crosswords today. I can’t remember his name, its P something T something R,” eleven posts of constructive criticism from Amy Reynaldo, ten KenKen variants from Thomas Snyder, nine Fireball Crosswords from Peter Gordon, eight cryptics from Trip Payne, seven podcasts from Ryan and Brian, six Kaidoku from Alex Boisvert, five novelty crossword ties, four meta puzzles from Matt Gaffney, three televisions to throw out the window at a party at this years American Crossword Puzzle Tournament, two more Kickstart-funded meta suites (I’m looking at you Eric Berlin and Patrick Blindauer), and a long and funny rant about the Times puzzle from Rex Parker.
Merry Christmas. Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Aw, a link to my blog! Just what I wanted for Christmas!
Merry Christmas to you too!
I’ve got that tie!
Spang?
Me too. English geek, but never heard/saw the word. Mr. Dictionary sez it’s legit. But wow, saved only by the crosses.
Nice xmas gift (I’m returning SPANG, though). Thanks for including enough gimmes for me to work through it and still have a lot of fun while waiting for the Extended Family to arrive.
Terrific stuff in this puzz. Added with relish “Gutvik” to my Things I Learned From Xwords” trove. Also amazed to learn that the Beachboys’ hit OKEMO was about hanging out on the ski slopes instead of all those beaches.
Note to editor: whenever BEQ reuses this wonderful puzz, please add “”s to Beowulf in keeping with the elevenish other titles in the clues.
“Gutvik” does not translate to “good fuck” in German.
The verb “to fuck” is “ficken”. While the noun form “Fick” exists, you’d have to decline the adjective “gut” to match, e.g. “ein guter Fick”.
