The guy in this puzzle is a hero of mine. Surprised it took only 265 puzzles for me to make a crossword referencing him. Such is life.
UPDATE: New Visual Thesaurus puzzle up. Go get it.

AW SNAP! Mathematician-physicist flame war? IT’S ON.
I think the proper analogy is
Math : Physics :: Casual sex : Sex for procreation
One is more useful, but the other is a lot more fun.
Def Medium. Wasn’t familiar with the quote but it’s typical of the always amusing source. Extra points given for working in the super hot political topic of fapping.
Too many names for my taste, but then there generally are, my taste being what it is. Still, I soldier on. When I first saw the clue for 37D I thought “Hah! We know BEQ loves popular music, and he knows we know, therefore it must be AUSTRIAN”. Luckily I already had enough crosses to make it obvious that I was over-thinking it.
Hey! Thanks for showing that great floor from the University of Oregon…one of my favorite things from my time there!
Well, you got me on the plural for 37D. But, on the plus side, I’m madder at you than at me.
Would’ve been a solid medium, except for TC_/_ETS in the SE corner — I chose S. Then had to google RESPECT TCB. Didn’t know it, but at least I have the consolation of knowing that many other people have evidently misheard or failed to understand this cryptic lyric too.
Interesting aspect of puzzle calculus, since we’re in the realm of higher mathematics: One obscure clue in a medium puzzle doesn’t make the puzzle a teensy bit harder than medium, it makes it FREAKIN’ IMPOSSIBLE! Not that I’m put out or anything.
Also, is it legit to have “take care” in the clue for TCB?
surely you’re joking!
I find it funny that the surname of the author of the book on chilling about global warming would be Fretwell. 🙂
