I was pretty burnt out this weekend (see above photo for proof). In fact, it was the kind of exhaustion that gave me deja vu. And after some reflection, I finally placed where I had felt that way before: I was on tour with an old band of mine. Seriously. Being a first-time parent is not unlike being in a touring band. And before you laugh, recall I successfully managed to compare solving the Times puzzle to parenting here. Okay, here we go:
Days blend together as they are filled with the same routines. You can only think about today and what you have to do. You might dwell a little bit on the past, but you can’t differentiate the days. Muscle memory is your friend. You don’t get time to shower much, let alone change your clothes. Hell, there’s a good chance that you’re sleeping in the same outfit for days on end. You’re definitely malnourished from not eating. All your hardest work is done at night. When you do finally go to sleep, it’s not restful sleep. You wake up confused. You don’t know where you are. When you look around the room, all you see is empty bottles. And there’s a good chance that someone in the room has pissed their pants.
Q.E.D.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Being tired ‘splains the title too. 🙂
Brilliant. QED, indeed.
Oh, the puzzle was good, too. 🙂
I’m sure we OLDS can be forgiven for taking an unholy glee in reading your post-natal reflections. FWIW, each new baby creates exactly the same circumstances, and all of the nifty tricks you learned on Big Sister/Brother don’t work with the next one.
Hang in!
Got me this time, BEQ.
Did not finish the lower-left; didn’t know the film, the clock name, or the British term without letters. Aarrgh. Fun times.
Great writeup too.
P.S.
Just showed the DHubby the photo and read the great write-up aloud. Cracked him up–and OUR first baby (also a girl) is now 30 years old. (No, you never recover.)
