ACROSS LITE PUZZLE: [ THEMELESS MONDAY]
PROGRAM: [Across Lite]
Took a different tack with this one. Sure, I started at 1-Across, and I set out to make sure that corner was extra-chunky. But instead of immediately going to the southeast corner, I continued on in a clockwise fashion. Mostly because I wanted to have fun/flexible stuff crossing in the middle. So it seemed like a safe strategy. Needless to say the southeast corner was a capital B-Bear to fill in. The candidates that were tried at 25-Down alone would be enough to make a tour de force themeless puzzle. No doubt you’ll see some of these attempts in future grids. Anyway: note to self: don’t do the clockwise construction again.
Quick side bar: you all saw David Quarfoot’s puzzle in the Times this past Saturday, right? I lost count of the way too many juicy entries, mostly because I was jealous that I hadn’t debuted them first. Anyway, back to the recap.
Surprise: my favorite clue is 4-Down. With a close second of 45-Across. Overall, it feels hard, but not like pile-driver hard. Hope you enjoy it.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
I think the expression is “be one’s self” or “be yourself” instead of BE ONE SELF.
The Tabitha effect: starting a puzzle with a clue about stuffed animals.

11 D was evil.
8A crossing 13D netted a Natick for me.
Agreed. It took me awhile to realize that “pop” quiz just wasn’t gonna do it.
25D was great one. I agree, the Quarfoots are getting to be the best XWPs to show up in the NYX. Got the feeling of my brain literally coming off my skull which probably accounts for my time on this puzzle and others. Hoping this gets better.
Me too on the 8A – 13D Natick.
