SIDEBOOB: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]

If you were expecting a racy picture to run alongside a puzzle with the name “Sideboob,” may I please direct your attention to a different tab in your web browser?
Now that we got rid of those people, I’d like to announce that I have puzzles available in a cool new app for Apple and Kindle products. It’s called Puzzazz. And unlike other digital crossword applications, Puzzazz’s defining feature is that it’s built around handwriting recognition. So you will no longer be subjugated by the QWERTY keyboard whilst solving puzzles on screens. ¡Viva la Revolución! Anyway, Puzzazz is set-up to be your one-stop on-line bookstore for all things digital-puzzles. Currently, they have 19 29 books, two by yours truly. The first puzzles for all titles are free (just like the app itself), and if you like what you see, you can purchase the remainder of said puzzles. There’s something for everybody in it too. Hey, Quigley, tell me about your books. You got it: They are “Freewheeling Crosswords,” a collection of themed puzzles, and “Wide Open Crosswords,” the themelesses. I’d like to point out two must-have titles. “Piece of Cake crosswords” by Ian Livengood, who is easily one of the best at making slam-dunk easy puzzles. The other is “Killer Cryptics” by Mike Selinker. (What? You doubted that I was going to ignore the cryptic book by one of the people who’s the closest thing to a saint in the puzzling world? You obviously don’t know me.)
Hey, who’s up for my latest Onion puzzle? [Across Lite] [PDF]
Share the puzzle. New one tomorrow.
Thanks for the plug, dude. I will return the love! And I will accept any and all pre-posthumous beatifications folks want to throw my way.
Mike
Thanks for the love, chief. I will return the good words posthaste. A book of nothing but BEQ themelesses, you say? WANT.
For other Puzzazzery, I’ve started T Campbell’s Crossworlds I. These are all science-fiction crosswords, which is pretty swank. And not junior-grade stuff either. You gotta bring some knowledge.
Mike
Puzzle title of the year.
Loved the Onion crossword yesterday.
Just one question: the Across Lite version that my iPhone crossword app (“Crosswords”) downloaded had 12-Down as “Kate Middleton’s mother-in-law, for short,” not GRANDmother-in-law as on the PDF. Same thing on the Onion’s online solving applet thingy (which still shows mother-in-law). What happened there?
42-Across: don’t call it that.
I fixed it in the one spot I had control to do that.
It’s an honor just to be nominated.
(Cheryl) LADD was not one of the original Charlie’s Angels. She replaced Farrah Fawcett(-Majors) in second season. & This was a nice good-n-hard one. Keep-em coming!!
Got it! Minimum of flailing around, and then when the nickel dropped, all I had to do was put the answers I was listing in the margin into place.
I was unencumbered by knowledge of charlie’s angels, so no problem about cheryl LADD.
Need a Tabitha Quigley picture soon. Preferably one w/o drool.
Exactly what I thought! That show has planted more daily subliminal responses in my head than any other cultural artifact. E.g., every time I meet somebody named Anne . . . (“Her?” “Egg?”)
I got Pizzaz and started doing a BEQ puzzle. Tried writing PRET. It thought my P was a D, then an R, then a D before it recognized the P. The R and the E were recognized right away. I could never get it to recognize the T. What am I doing wrong? If this is the best that the handwriting recognizer can do then it is just a gimmick to attract attention to the app.
