I have a running list of theme ideas in seach of a puzzle. Usually, when inspiration strikes, a half-formed sketch goes onto the list and later when I have more time I develop said sketch into a finished product. (For those that care, today’s first idea was 20-Across and I built out from there.) Now, since these ideas usually strike when I’m out walking around town, I capture these ideas on my phone. Then, there are times that I’m so hurried to get the idea down, that my sloppy fingers input total gibberish that my phone then Autocorrects into strings of incomprehensible nonsense like the following:
Shabbat sober fide hey very by budget
That there is a sketch of the greatest crossword ever written, only now it’s been obscured beyond any and all chance of comprehension that the idea is gone forever. Feel free to offer your own suggestions as to what I must have been reminding myself about in the comments section. Most inspired suggestion will receieve a copy of my latest book “Marching Bands.”
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
Good puzzle. 42D more than makes up for the 47D/52A crosssing.
You were trying to type “Hctansrednab is bandersnatch spelled backwards” after listening to vintage Firesign Theater.
Good puzzle. Thanks.
Shabbat=Bobbitt
Sober=Colbert
Fide hey very=Strawberry (Darryl)
By budget=Gidget
You had a brilliant idea how to connect all these people together with one strong underlying theme.
“Flaming globes, Sigmund”
Really enjoyed this – the theme, the grid, and a lot of really stellar clues. Thanks.
“Siouxsie Sioux made happy by Budgie.”
Good puzzle.
You must have read a nice Jewish girl’s diary. All the words are there:
The budget was low so we couldn’t afford very much wine for Shabbat, but, hey, sober, we did enjoy bona fide chicken soup by Grandma.
