It’s rare that we get a 66-word grid that has as much freshness as today’s. Typically once we cross that 68 word count barrier, there are, shall we say, liberties taken with the fill to make the wide-open corners work. That is, unless you add some extra black squares, which, okay, sometimes aren’t pretty. But hey, let’s enjoy the answers instead of the grid aesthetics. And if for whatever reason it really bothers you, you can always think of the grid as flanked by blocks of chocolate. (Who’s hungry now?)
I said it last week, and I’m going to say it again. Do this Patick Berry cryptic. It’s the kind of puzzle that just makes you go “… How?!” One of the all-time greats from one of the all-time greats.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
BEQ – Thank you. I love variety cryptics probably more than any kind of puzzle. Where did you find this? And why is he not using his real name?
Is the solution to Patrick Berry cryptic available? I could use a hint or two.
Don’t know but it’s WICKED! His “the crypt” collection of cryptics from his A Frame Games website are dazzling and somewhat easier. This thing is a monster. I definitely need some hints…
Decent puzzle.
Don’t know if the reason I don’t like cryptics is because I suck at them or I suck at them because I don’t like them. Either way, the solution for those looking for one should appear on the author’s website.
