THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
62 worder today, and well, it’s got a lot openness I had to contend with while constructing it. Close examination will notice how I saved my bacon a little bit to make the grid quote-unquote “easier” to fill in (I’ll give you a hint: look to the SW area). Still, it wasn’t easy. Loads of fun stuff, though. Hope you enjoy it.
Summer tip drive is still going (ending on Independence Day!), and let me see if I can do the appeal in under fifty words. Okay here goes:
The puzzles on this site will always be free, nobody should feel obligated to pay for them. It’s what I do. But if you like my stuff, a $10 tip would be sweet, and I’ll hook you up with two bonus 21x puzzles. One random donor will get a copy of Drunk Crosswords. Thanks!
Okay! 55 words. That’ll do. We’ll see if we can break 50 next time.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
That was hard but fair. Six proper names on the NE quadrant was a bit much, especially the 25A/21D crossing. One of the more literate puzzles I’ve done lately.
i wish i could say i heard this from someone else, but i’m the one using it. i told someone on FB that “if you’re going to be ANONYMOUS, that you should try abbreviating your name. By using the first two and last two letters of your name.” This looks like the type of clue you’re not going to get in any CRYPTIC CROSSWORD Puzzle any time soon.
Thought this was a fantastic puzzle with some really great clever clues. Thanks.
Well done puzzle. How I pulled MINGUS out, I have no idea. 37D is a new one for me, too.
Yes, very nice puzzle, and bonus points for references to two great songs.
Done in 20 min. TANIS ….anyone…?? ; )
Dig Charles MINGUS musical statement against the arch-racist Orval Faubus (Arkansas Governor in the 1950’s and 60’s,) “Fables of Faubus.”
The classic album: MINGUS AH UM has some wordplay:
Mingus is “Latin-esque” -us” at the end…
MINGUS made up an imaginary Latin word (adj. in this case) — Mingus. In Latin, that’s the masculine form of the adjective. The feminine form would be “Minga” and the neuter form would be “Mingum”.
So… in a Latin textbook, if “Mingus” were a real adjective, you’d see it listed like so:
Adj. — Mingus, -a, -um.
Thank you for interesting Monday puzzles.
