THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Often times the starting point for a themeless is an entry. Something flashy, something fresh, you get the picture. There’s certainly at least one or two of them in this grid, but it wasn’t where I actually started from. No today’s original seed answer came from an answer/clue combination. If not mistaken, it came whilst bullshittin’ with my fellow judges at the ACPT. Anyway, you’ll know it when you see it.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
10D is debatable. I don’t want to spoil it by posting a discussion, but I think BEQ intended a word that’s similar to the one in the fill.
A perfectly acceptable clue as there was no reference to lawyers. Contractors are regularly “that word”ed. See the wikipedia entry.
After 45 years of doing crossword puzzles, I am still amazed that people expect precise clues. Vagueness is king in the best crosswords!
Bill Maher used a [36a. Cross-fit] joke (admiring Jesus’ abs) during the New Rules segment of his April 6 show. I thought it was funny, Never heard that joke before, but now I see it twice in 3 days! BTW 39d. You can’t use “idea” in the clue, Can you? I didn’t know it when I saw it. Thanks for the puzzle.
