The latest and greatest puzzle that I’ve been grappling with is a real doozy. Our hot water heater just shuts itself off at inopportune times. And then hours later, it performs a Lazarus-like resurrection, no rhyme or reason. Totally baffling. Even the user’s manual lists codes supposedly explain the problem as well as the troubleshooting to go about fixing it, but maybe I have to run thost instructions through a Vigenère cipher or something first. Because, well, those steps aren’t fixing anything. Or maybe it’s because I’m not a plumber, or in HVAC. Possibly a bit of all of those reasons. Still, the struggle continues.
As for today’s offering, I just love it when a title comes at the 11th hour. Hope you enjoy it.
Last couple days before Year Two of Marching Bands starts. Get on the bandwagon, dudes and dudettes.
Share the puzzle. New one on Monday.
We had a similar problem with our hot water heater (isn’t it actually a cold water heater?). Rust scaling from the inside was falling and obstructing the pilot light. Of course, ours was a gas heater, and, from the illustrative photo, yours looks like 32mm.
Also, the clue for HIREE should be “someone handed a job.”
Very nicely done puzzle.
shouldn’t the answer to 57A be hirer? and hot water heater is redundant.
First time I ever had issues with clue credibility versus answer. Hmmm
