COME TOGETHER: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]

Another puzzle theme from the seemingly neverending list of “theme answer in search of a crossword.” That’s the list of ideas that haven’t been completely fleshed out, but, dang it, this one particular answer really needs to be in a puzzle someday. I love it when the idea actually leads to a completed puzzle, it feels almost like a quasi-religious self-discovery moment. More often than not, though, the disembodied themes just sit there in puzzle purgatory. I have often thought about making a metapuzzle (that’s meta- meaning “self-referential,” not meta meaning “puzzle within a puzzle”) using a bunch of these great answers without any sort of linking element. Then again, I guess that would just be like one of Trip Payne’s Something Different wacky themelesses. Regardless, hope you enjoy today’s offering.
Studies show that four of of five people who are able to give a bit to the latest BEQ drive live longer, happier lives. Studies also show that five out of five people who give $10 get three bonus puzzles from yours truly. Those sound like good odds to me. So give if you can, but again, there’s never any pressure to throw in. Like I said before, if it’s on the Internet, it should be free. But before I go, thanks to all who’ve chipped in already.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Nice puzzle, on a topic dear to my heart.
But really, Brendan, you put *ice* in your manhattan. That’s just crass!
“Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.” Uh … don;t know what you might have been imbibing, but this IS Thursday. 🙂 Loved the theme. The fill? Not so much.
Cant Buy Me Mine had me laughing! Good one.
Excellent theme and puzzle!
But I have to agree with Jenny G. A proper Manhattan, while stirred with ice cubes to get to the proper temp and dilution should never be served on a rock. Perhaps you were thinking of n Old Fashioned.
