THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Over the next two weeks, I’m asking kindly that if you’ve been enjoying the puzzles on this site to consdier a $10 tip. This is by no means a demand as, hey, this site is on the Internet and what good is the Internet if everything online wasn’t free? Paywalls keep people out, and this site is all about including everybody. And keepin’ em in, too. Give the people what they want, I always say. So yes, the site remains free, forever. You can quote me on that. All’s I’m saying is it’s time to pass the hat around. So if you can throw in a $10 tip between now and July 6th, I’ll send you three bonus puzzles as a thank you: two Sunday sized puzzles (one themed, one themeless), and one variety word puzzle. Good stuff.
Also, I will personally help one randomly selected donor make a puzzle. Theme development, grid construction, clue assistance, or overall criticism. Their pick. What do you have to lose? Twenty years of puzzlemaking experience and BEQ’s rapier wit? Sounds like a steal.
As for today’s puzzle, you know it bothered me to no end to have to put those two single black squares along the right- and left-hand sides. But who was I fooling? Those would have been just too wide open to pull of cleanly. I guess it was my own damned fault for making the northwest and southeast corners (the first two I filled in) too closed off. Note to self, next time: make the starting corners more open. Still, any time you can put 1-Across and 30-Down in a crossword, you just have to do it.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Never heard of the term in 30-down. Your puzzles are always so educational!
Also hadn’t heard of 30D, even after all the stories of Bill O’Reilly’s phone sex. Loved 1A also.
Thanks for the tip reminder. Given the time it takes me to solve some of these, my subscription rate should be way more than $10.
Wicked crossing at 46A and 44D; I guessed correctly based on which vowel “looked” most Italian.
My today I learned moment was Googling Mangel-wurzel (after correctly solving.) I didn’t Google 30D, I think I have figured that out.
Keep Mondays tough!
30D, while a word (and now a brand name), does not mean what your clue says it means, obscure Urban Dictionary clue notwithstanding. It’s something *men*, not women, use.
*entry* not clue.
