THEMELESS MONDAY: [ ACROSS LITE][ PDF]
PROGRAMS: [Across Lite] [Adobe Reader]
Why yes, there are two 14s in today’s themeless. They’re kind of the red-headed stepchildren of crossword answers, but since I’m a redhead myself, I can relate. Sure, I’ve used 14s plenty of times before in themed puzzles, and more often than not I’ve just, ahem, “cheated” by shaving off a column of squares (like here). But if you’re putting a 14-letter answer in a 15, ain’t no way to do it without putting an extra black square to pad it out. Still, when you’ve got a great seed answer (no points for guessing which one), you just have to use it.
Share the puzzle. New one on Thursday.
Wow, never thought I’d finish this one. Guess that makes me pretty 8D!
Speaking of 8 D, I don’t suppose you know the LP by the band Harriet the Spy which used the entry as its title?
More puzzle and less exam please.
Keep Monday tough Brendan! Your puzzle balances out the easy peasy Monday NYT. I like to learn something from my puzzles (such as 31D) and your crossings are always fair. This one took a while for me, but no Googling required.
Whew! Being a member of the baby boomer generation, I learn a lot about the younger generations by doing xwords. But 31D? Yeow!
